Procedure
The program was written by
following "The regulations of translating the standardized geographic names"; The descriptions of each step are the followings:
Step1：Create the reference database
Based on the principle of geographic name translation, the database is created to have special case entry,
administration divisions entry, suffix entry, and so on. The process is
kind of tedious.
Step2：Pre-processing
the data
Omitting the space character and diagnosing the string (ex.
”台”與”臺”）while reading the data
Step3：Special
case replacing
Comparing the original string
with the special case, if they are matched, it will be replaced directly.
Step4：Administration
divisions and
location names processing
1. Replace the
administration division string directly in the
original data.
2.Translate all location names or map name
appeared in the original string by pinyin system.
Step5：Suffix
replacing
If the suffix of the original string matches the suffix entry of
the reference database, Replace the suffix of the original string with the
suffix entry in the reference database, if they are matched.
Step6：Ordinal,
directions and word meaning processing
1.
Ordinal : If “第XX號”or”XX號” appears in the original string, replace them
with ”NO. “.
2.Directions and word meaning: For the non-suffix direction words and the
words with meaning in the original string, they will be replaced if ones
match the reference database
Step7：Pinyin translation
After the previous steps, Using the official pinyin
translates the rest parts.
Step8：Labor
correctness
In
order to increase the correctness of translation, the result generated
from this program has to be examined by labor.
